We’re in the 2nd week of January. Have you kept your New Year’s resolution? Hopefully, yes! But if not, you are not alone, only a small percentage of people do. Do you know what’s the real reason that people don’t stick to their New Year’s resolutions? It’s their mindset. One of the most difficult things in the world to do is self-discipline. Self-discipline is about being aware of the little subconscious voice in your head that stops you from accomplishing your goals.

For example, let’s say that your New Year’s resolution is to get up an hour earlier than normal everyday so that you can exercise. Once you make that decision to make it a part of your life that should be enough, right? You should have enough discipline to stick to your new routine, but for most of us when the alarm goes off an hour earlier than normal, all the excuses in the world start to come rushing to our minds. “I didn’t get enough sleep last night” or “I didn’t fall asleep on time I’m really tired so I’m going to skip it today and I’ll start tomorrow.” Tomorrow of course never comes and before we know it, we’ve forgotten all about our New Year resolution.

But if you have the right mindset, you’d remember that you committed to waking up earlier and you would keep your word to yourself. By keeping your word to yourself, you are valuing yourself; you know you are so important that you can’t risk letting you down. When you have the right mind-set you value your desires, wants, and needs enough that you won’t break a promise to yourself.

Self-discipline is really self-love it’s honouring and respecting yourself so much that you never let yourself down. Sadly, most of us are much more likely to break a promise to ourselves than we are to someone else. When you can get to the place where you consistently keep your word to yourself then you are on your way to an abundant happy life because then all 30 trillion of your cells believe you mean business and work with you to accomplish your goals.

Integrity is about following through with what you say you’re going to do and the most import person you must show integrity to, is to yourself.

Here’s to a productive 2022!
