Before I became a coach, I attended Tony Robbins’ Unleash the Power Within course, and it was truly transformative. The most powerful lesson I took away from it was this: meaning means everything. The way we interpret events shapes the course of our lives.
When we find ourselves stuck in certain areas of life, there is usually a story we have told ourselves about why we are that way and how it all started. My clients often arrive at my course burdened by these stories. They know they are stuck but don’t always understand why. However, when we dig deeper, we often uncover the root cause—the moment they first formed that belief.
Identifying the event itself is important, but the true key lies in understanding the meaning my client assigned to it. For example, a person struggling with abandonment issues or a lack of trust in relationships may have experienced a childhood event where they felt abandoned by a parent or caretaker. They internalized the belief: If I love someone, they will eventually abandon me.
Imagine the impact of carrying that belief throughout life. This paradigm gets reinforced repeatedly, appearing as if it were an undeniable truth. However, when I help my clients recognise that this belief is just a story, not a fact, they can begin to see things differently.
This is not a quick fix. It requires deep work. We must revisit painful moments, but with a new perspective—one that considers the context of those who may have hurt us. What was going on in their lives? Could there have been another meaning behind their actions?
I use the analogy of a peephole—do we really see the whole picture? When we revisit these events with a trusted guide, we can discover new perspectives and find compassion. With compassion comes healing, and with healing comes the ability to rewrite our story with forgiveness and hope.
Every event is neutral—it is the meaning we give it that shapes our experience. Rain on a wedding day may be disastrous for the bride but a blessing for a farmer in need. The event itself does not define us; our interpretation does.
On The Cleopatra Effect course, let me help you change the meaning of past hurts so you can break free and move forward into the life you deserve.
